The first thing you see when you enter K.K. Sweets are a colorful assortment of French style sweets, pastries that are freshly made every morning at 5 am by owner and head chef, Kelsey Kreig.
Kreig is an alumna of Culinary Institute of America and opened the bakery in September 2020. It has already become successful in just a year, despite the pandemic. Every morning, Hamilton residents flock to see what’s new and place orders for special occasions.
“French style” means careful and elaborate decorative items. Custom cakes may be topped with macarons. Then there is canelé, which is caramel iced crepe batter with vanilla beans and rum.
By 10 am on a Sunday you may find the bakery case already very picked over, but there is always a vast selection and still much to sample.
You can find everything from blueberry tarts, to multiple flavors of macarons and brioche with tiny sugar cubes on top. You can easily spend a lot on these sweets, but every penny is well spent as they have all the needs a sweet tooth could ever ask for.
The macarons all melt in your mouth but the fruity pebbles one is like taking a bite into a bowl of cereal and is one of the most unique and enjoyable.
The cookies and cream filled puff is just on the right scale of sweetness. The red velvet cupcakes icing was the star of the show and you have to be careful with the canelé because it might cause you to spend a whole paycheck coming back for it again and again.
By later that day, everything in the bakery case is often gone. If that does not say go try this bakery now, then what does?
Customer Marcie Lynn says, “K.K. Sweets is amazing! We have gotten several cakes from Kelsey Kreig, the owner and Nottingham High grad. She is super talented, so accommodating, and there is not one thing in her bakery that is not AMAZING.”
The pastry shop is located on 3257 Quakerbridge Road in Hamilton, New Jersey and is usually open 8-3PM on weekdays but is closed on Mondays. For the holidays the shop teams up with Byron Barn for a Christmas Market in Plainsboro.
