Achievements at the Voice: Isabelle was part of the Career Prep program at the time she wrote for The VOICE. She earned a second place opinion writing award from the New Jersey Press Foundation for her article "Hustle culture is killing us!"
Where are they now? Isabelle was always balancing her academics with highly competitive athletics. She earned a scholarship to Clemson as a runner in track and field.

Achievements at the Voice: McKenna set the bar high for all those who worked on the staff during her leadership, offering advice and support and ensuring everyone took on valuable stories. She earned a first place New Jersey Press Foundation award for her feature on the "C.R.O.W.N Act"
Where are they now? McKenna graduated in December 2023 from MCCC and decided to take time off before continuing her studies.

Senior Reporter and former Co-Editor in Chief - Fall 2020-Spring 2024
Achievements at the Voice: Elijah began his time at The VOICE when everything was remote for COVID and stayed on to serve as co Editor in Chief as the college slowly returned to in-person learning. He became knowledgeable in all styles of journalistic writing and photography and helped mentor junior staff members and prepare future editors over the course of three years. He won a variety of awards for his work including first place in the features writing and hard news writing categories of the New Jersey Press Foundation competition, as well as a second place NJPF for profile writing. His photographs of the Dia de Los Muertos event in Princeton earned him a region 1 finalist award from the Society of Professional Journalists in the Mark of Excellence competition. He attended the College Media Association conference in both 2022 and 2024.

Ben Levitt
Managing Editor - Fall 2022
Achievements at the Voice: Ben set himself apart with his ability to cover breaking news stories and manage tight timelines as well as his willingness to go into the field to cover events and features. He won numerous awards including a national Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for his photograph of police taking a knee at a DEI march in the summer of 2020. He was recognized for his graphic design skills with a College Media Association award for best print ad, and his multimedia abilities with a New Jersey Press Foundation award in the online video category. He also won a third place NJPF award for feature writing.

Reporter - Fall 2022-Spring 2023
Achievements at the Voice: Jessica stood out for her coverage of Arts & Entertainment events including reviews of local music festivals and cafes. Her reporting on the HBO series "The Janes" earned her a first place New Jersey Press Foundation award in the Arts & Entertainment category. She also contributed to notable breaking news coverage of the Rutgers faculty strike in spring 2023.
Where are they now?
Jessica came to MCCC as part of the career prep program. After completing it she transferred to Ithaca College where she is focussing on public health and continuing to pursue her interest in communications by doing work for the Associated Press during the election season. | Ruby Voge

Christopher Patti
Reporter and Photographer - Fall 2022
Achievements at the Voice: Returning to MCCC to complete study in audio production Christopher jumped into The VOICE and journalism and generated content that showcased not only his writing ability but keen eye for photography as demonstrated in his center spread on the Howell Living History Farm for which he won a second place award from the New Jersey Press Foundation. He also won a third place NJPF award in sports reporting.
Where are they now?
After completing his degree Christopher went on to work in audio broadcasting.

Achievements at the Voice: Ashley came to MCCC after completing a degree in culinary arts. Although she decided to shift direction career-wise, she hoped to contribute reporting focussed on food and culture for The VOICE. Instead she was encouraged to write feature stories. Her work connected with readers on an emotional level and her article on the Funeral Service program at MCCC won her a second place award in features writing from the New Jersey Press Foundation.

Achievements at the Voice: Sadie wrote for The VOICE during its transitional semester as the paper moved out of Student Activities to become and academic organization. In that time she contributed articles on a variety of topics including everything from a fatal stabbing in a Trenton school to renovations being made to campus buildings. Her review of the Kelsey Theatre performance of "The Fantasticks" earned her a second place award in the Arts & Entertainment category of the New Jersey Press Foundation competition.

Achievements at the Voice: Madhavi helped usher The VOICE into a new era as the college emerged from COVID isolation. Whiler passion for music drew her to the Arts and Entertainment beat, she stood out for her investigative reporting earning a first place award in the New Jersey Press Foundation competition for her article “Board Chair and exiting president clash: Feud includes $200,000 bill for internal investigation."
Where are they now?
Madhavi transferred to Rowan University where she completed her bachelor's degree in Sound Engineering. From there she went on to work in PR as a booking agent and social media manager.

Achievements at the Voice: Ashley brought, humor, passion, and talent to The VOICE, writing numerous features, ops, and hard news articles. She won New Jersey Press Foundation awards in photography, opinion writing, and hard news reporting. She was adept at balancing her academic work as an Honors student with a near full-time job at a women's shelter all while pursuing her passion for theater production in her free time.

Ashley transferred to Princeton University where she studies sociology and works in their theater program.

Art Editor - Fall 2021-Spring 2022
Achievements at the Voice: Liam's gift for editorial cartooning brought much needed levity and satirical wit to The VOICE starting as the COVID restrictions were beginning to lift and continuing to his graduation a year later. Liam developed his leadership skills stepping into the role of Art Editor in his final semester conceptualizing layouts, refining graphic design choices, and creating a multi-page illustration along side his monthly cartoons. Among other awards, his work received one of the highest recognitions in college journalism with a first place national win in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards.
Where are they now?
Liam transferred to The College of New Jersey to continue his studies in graphic design. In addition to his contributions to TCNJ's newspaper The Tower, Liam's cartoons have been picked up for syndication and featured in national publications including The Washington Post.

Achievements at the Voice: Bruna contributed both reporting and photography to The VOICE. Her features articles typically included extensive photo galleries and she earned a first place award in photography award in the New Jersey Press Foundation's annual competition for her piece “The Piano Project, part of April Arts in Princeton, hit a special chord.” She also was selected to attend the College Media Association conference in New York City in March of 2022.

After completing her degree at MCCC, Bruna has continued her work as a professional photographer.

Achievements at the Voice: Kyle's strongest work at The VOICE focussed on issues of diversity on campus. However, it was his coverage of MCCC's legacy of outstanding baseball players that earned him a second place New Jersey Press Foundation award in the Sports Reporing category. Based on the strength of his work he was selected to attend the College Media Association conference in New York City in March of 2022.

After completing her degree at MCCC Kyle transferred to Montclair University where he continued to pursue his passion for reporting as a reporter for the Montclairion.

Reporter - Fall 2020-Spring 2021
Achievements at the Voice: As COVID prompted VOICE staff meetings to be held via Zoom Mandy was able to attend while caring for three children at home. Rising early to work on her writing, she quickly picked up journalistic skills in multiple formats earning New Jersey Press Foundation awards including first place in opinion and critical writing, third place in Arts & Entertainment, and first place as part of a fiver person team in a special Coronavirus Coverage.
Where are they now?
Mandy was a Business major at MCCC. As of 2021 her family was preparing for a move.

Reporter - Fall 2021-2022
Achievements at the Voice: Amelia shined during her time at MCCC, bringing energy and momentum to both the creative writing and arts publications and The VOICE. Her compelling performance of her poem "After the Burning of the 3rd Precinct" earned her a first place award in the Online Video category for the New Jersey Press Foundation competition.
Where are they now?
Amelia received a scholarship to attend Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts as a member of their Ada Comstock program.

Reporter - Fall 2021-2022
Achievements at the Voice: Jason stepped up as a standout reporter during the time MCCC was online only during the pandemic. He attended multiple outdoor events covering the arts and culture beat particularly in Trenton through both writing and photography. He won a third place award in the Photography category of the New Jersey Press Foundation competition for his piece covering The Arts Council of Princeton's pop-up chalk murals event. In the same competition he won a second place award for features writing about small businesses in Trenton that managed to survive and thrive during the pandemic.
Where are they now?
Jason has been an active VOICE alumn and is preparing to return to MCCC to participate in the J Lab Community Reporting certificate program.

Brian Amigh
Reporter - Fall 2020
Achievements at the Voice: Brian's time at The VOICE was brief but memorable. His article "Three Stories of COVID Survival" earned him a first place New Jersey Press Foundation win as part of team coverage of COVID 19, and an individual finalist award for the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence competition.
Where are they now?
Brian transferred to TCNJ where he completed his Bachelor's degree in Psychology in December 2022.

Photography Editor - 2019-2021
Achievements at the Voice: Although Alessandro wrote several articles during his two years at The VOICE but his greatest contribution were his professional quality photos that earned him the first place New Jersey Press Foundation award in Feature Photography two years in a row, and first place Mark of Excellence award in the Sports Photography from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Where are they now?
Alessandro is currently moving toward continuing his photography training at the four-year college level.

Achievements at the Voice: Kristina did not hesitate to contribute articles to The VOICE, but her most notable contributions were her editorial cartoons, illustrations, and artistic drawings that gave The VOICE a unique aesthetic throughout her two years on the staff. She was part of a team that won a first place writing award from the New Jersey Press Foundation for the Covid reporting special category. She also won a national finalist award in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence competition for her editorial cartooning.

Kristina is currently studying at TCNJ for her Bachelor's in Interactive Multimedia.

Donny Neuls
Social Media Editor - 2019-2020
Achievements at the Voice: Donny worked his way up through the ranks from Social Media Editor to a brief stint as the transitional Editor in Chief during the tumultuous shift into COVID lockdown. In his time on the staff he earned four New Jersey Press Foundation awards and a College Media Association Apple Award in the unusual category of "Best Tweet." He won NJPF's in COVID special reporting, Profile Writing, Online Video, and a first place win in Newswriting for an article he wrote with then EIC Tori Pender, about an angry pastor who showed up in the MCCC quad and preached for hours about how the students were going to hell.
Where are they now?
Donny currently works at Bury the Hatchet in Princeton, NJ.
| Serena Bolitho
Editor in Chief - Fall 2020
Achievements at the Voice: Serena came to MCCC from Princeton High School and served as Editor in Chief during fall of 2020, ensuring that both a print and online edition continued to be produced and that new staffers were mentored even though the college was completely closed during lockdown. Although Serena wrote on a broad range on topics, she received recognition for her photographic storytelling for a piece she co-created showcasing a variety of locals wearing their masks and telling the stories behind them. The project earned a Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence finalist award and a first place New Jersey Press Foundation award. Her writing was part of a team submission that won a first place award for COVID 19 coverage from the New Jersey Press Foundation. She was also president of the Mercer Medical Club and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Where are they now? Serena moved to Utah and is now an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Vascular Surgery at the University Of Utah Hospital.

Reporter - Fall 2020
Achievements at the Voice: Elliot, an Honors student who returned to MCCC after retiring from a full career as a police officer, brought laughter and maturity to the remote newsroom, working on articles about everything from a charity golf event to an op on policing in the time of George Floyd.

Tori Pender
Editor in Chief - 2019-2020
Achievements at the Voice: Tori oversaw a season full of breaking news stories and became adept at fast paced collaboration and mentoring new reporters. She lead the VOICE to another year as the New Jersey Press Association's top ranked two-year newspaper in NJ, both in print and online, and won first place awards for her editorial and her breaking news reporting, and second place for online video.
Where are they now?
After graduating from Mercer, Tori transferred to Rider University to continue her studies in Communication.

Achievements at the Voice: Despite anxiety about whether she had what it took to be a reporter Melissa defined herself as the editor who would try anything from writing a column about her personal experiences, to writing large scale investigative work on the criminal record expungement process. Melissa won three first place New Jersey Collegiate Press Association awards for web project, feature and column writing.

After graduating from Mercer, Melissa transferred to Rutgers Newark to continue her studies.

Achievements at the Voice: Saad began as a junior reporter focussing on the campus beat. As managing editor he served to mentor a large incoming cohort of junior staff in fall 2019 and was particularly instrumental in helping them gain stronger interviewing skills. He also lead an initiative to enhance coverage and outreach with the creation of short video packages.

After graduating from Mercer, Saad is either planning to head to NY or LA Film Schools.

Achievements at the Voice: Kristen served not only in the role of social media editor but as defacto photography editor and lead photographer. She received first place honors in the New Jersey Press Foundation 2019 awards for her online video about a white supremacist rally in Princeton that never occurred but inspired a significant counter protest.

After graduating from Mercer, Kristen is taking time off to work as a photography assistant at LimeLight Entertainment.

Maria Ramos
Editor in Chief - 2016-2018
Achievements at the Voice: Maria was thrust into the role of Editor in Chief unexpectedly after the mid-semester departure of the previous EIC. Initially concerned that she wouldn't have what it took to lead a newspaper, especially because English is her second language and she had only been in the US for three years at the time, Maria continued a tradition of powerhouse leadership and reporting by our EICs and by our international students in particular. She united the team and lead The VOICE to numerous overall category award wins in state, national and regional collegiate journalism competitions. In the span of three semesters she earned seven NJCPA awards (one 1st place, four 2nd place, and two 3rd place), a Pinnacle award (3rd place), three SPJ Mark of Excellence regional finalist awards, and an ACP Pacemaker honorable mention. Her writing focusses on social justice issues facing young adults.
Where are they now?
After graduating from Mercer, Maria began study at the University of Texas at El Paso where she wrote for both her student newspaper, The Prospector, and for outside publications such as the International edition of Newsweek (in Spanish). She received an internship from ProPublica the investigative reporting outlet and was then hired at the Dallas Morning News.

Managing Editor - 2017-2019
Achievements at the Voice: Drew served as one of the youngest ever senior editors at The VOICE, starting as a junior reporter fall semester of his freshman year and being promoted up through the ranks by spring. Drew built up his confidence with his photography but soon became a standout writer particularly in covering breaking news stories.
Where are they now? In summer 2019 Drew completed an independent study in investigative reporting at MCCC, for which he won a New Jersey Press Association award to match his 8 other previous awards including a Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence award for feature writing. He transferred to Montclair State to continue his study in journalism. Among his other assignments he covered the January 6th Insurrection in Washington, DC. | Chelsey Johnstone
Editor in Chief- 2018-2019
Achievements at the Voice: Following in the footsteps of the previous extremely successful Editor in Chief, Chelsey took over leadership setting a high standard for organization and maturity in the newsroom as she balanced eight classes, dual majors in Music and Communication, Honors classes, and a workstudy position in the Financial Aid office with her role as EIC. She helped build the staff back up after more than half the previous team graduated the previous spring, recruiting new writers, mentoring them, and still contributing numerous articles particularly in her favorite area of Arts & Entertainment reporting.
Where are they now? After a year working in Student Activities at MCCC Chelsey transferred to Montclair State to continue her study in journalism. She also works part time as an editor and has written numerous arts and entertainment stories for Unclear Magazine. |

Jackson Thompson
Sports Editor - 2017-2018
Achievements at the Voice: Jackson kicked off a career in excellent sports reporting while at The VOICE where his work was recognized with a first place win from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association in 2017 for his feature writing on Title IX as it impacts Mercer athletics. Like other VOICE staffers he covered a variety of other topics outside his primary interest and was recognized for that, too, with a second place NJCPA award for Newswriting and a third place for Arts & Entertainment reporting.
Where are they now?
Jackson transferred to Rutgers University in 2018 and became a sports reporter for the Daily Targum. He got a summer internship at The Boston Globe in 2019 and was then hired by Sports Illustrated in 2020.
| Mohammad Wiswall
Reporter - 2018
Achievements at the Voice: Though only a part of The VOICE staff for a single semester, Mohammad brought maturity and leadership to the newsroom. He wrote a compelling opinion piece about his experience as a Muslim in America in the time of Trump, and wrote a feature on his passion, jiu-jitsu.
Where are they now?
Mo transferred to Rutgers University where he continued his academic and athletic pursuits. He then received a Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program scholarship from the Department of Education. After completing the program he was accepted into Duke University for a PhD in Psychology & Neuroscience.
| Griffin Jones
Managing Editor - Fall 2017
Achievements at the Voice:
Griffin once admitted he only joined The VOICE in 2016 on a lark and to help beef up his resume, but he soon became immersed in the life of the paper, dedicating himself to hard-hitting stories such as the suicide death of fellow student Nick Pratico and the Washington, D.C. March for Our Lives. Griffin's work was characterized by persistent investigative reporting combined with moving and empathetic photography. He was received numerous awards for his work in both writing and photography, including three third-place NJCPA awards for writing in different categories, a first-place NJCPA for features photography, two Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Region 1 finalist awards for photography (one in 2018 and one in 2019), and an Associated Collegiate Press Association Pacemaker Award nation honorable mention for Story of the Year in the diversity series category with a team of three other staffers.
Where are they now?
Griffin graduated from William Paterson's program at Mercer and transferred to Columbia University. He wrote for The Columbia Spectator and for the Columbia Undergraduate Law Review and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 2021.

Svetlana Craft

Achievements at the Voice: Svetlana joined The VOICE in fall 2016 and quickly worked her way up to Managing Editor. She distinguished herself in investigative reporting, particularly while covering the story of a serial sex offender who committed an assault on children on campus. She, and the team she worked with on that article, won second place award for Investigative Reporting from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association in 2017.
Where are they now?
Svetlana completed her Associates degree and now works in Business Development at Top Prospect Consulting, Inc. in Manalapan, NJ.

Opinions Editor - 2016- 2017
Achievements at the Voice: Oscar joined The VOICE in fall 2016 and quickly worked her way up to Opinions Editor by spring of 2017. His writing had a strong impact on the community. Following an article in which he critiqued the new student portal app from Elucian, he was invited to consult with the company to improve the product. He also won a second place award from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association for his opinion article on the need for a food court at the college.
Where are they now?
Oscar completed his B.A. degree from William Paterson with major in History and Political Science. He has pursued two career interests first following his passion for culinary arts and then moving on to more media and writing. He first worked as Content and Social Media Intern at Strayboots, a global provider of team-building activities for corporate clients, and then went on to Edison Research, a company that provides "strategic information for businesses and media organizations worldwide. "

Achievements at the Voice: Jasmine joined The VOICE in fall 2016 and became Photography Editor. Her strength in photography was recognized when she not only won a Region 1 (northeast) finalist Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for her sports photography of Mercer's softball team. In addition to her photography, she also distinguished herself as a writer, receiving a second place award from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association for her sports profile reporting.

Originally interested in pursuing a career in communications, Jasmine changed directions. She transferred to Rutgers University where she is now majoring in Psychology and plans to go on and earn as Masters of Social Work after receiving her B.A. She serves as a Transfer Mentor to other students coming to Rutgers. |

Achievements at the Voice: Arriving at The VOICE with strong writing skills, Carl distinguished himself both mentoring new writers and in his column writing and investigative reporting, for which he won first place award in 2014 from the New Jersey Collegiate Press association.
Where are they now?
Starting as a staff reporter, Carl's writing abilities helped him ascended through the ranks from Opinions Editor, to News Editor, to Editor in Chief. A Marine Corps veteran, Carl took time off from school in 2014 and 2015 to pursue work with the New Jersey Transit Authority. He returned to MCCC in Spring of 2016 to complete his Associates in Communication.

Achievements at the Voice: In addition to serving as copy editor, Caitlin contributed reviews and arts articles, helped acclimate new writers to The VOICE and attended the spring 2017 College Media Association conference in New York City.

Achievements at the Voice: Consistently contributed both column articles, such as one on Breast Cancer Awareness, she stood out for her excellent photography earning Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence award in 2017 for her theater photos of "'Twas The Night Before Christmas."
Where are they now?
Transferred to William Paterson University to pursue a dual major in Biology, with an Ecology concentration, and K-12 Education. She was awarded the Robert Noyce Scholarship which covers $10,000 of tuition per year for students planning to teach in the STEM field in NJ.

Stephen Harrison

Achievements at the Voice: Stephen wrote for The VOICE briefly in 2011, took some time off from school and then returned to The VOICE in 2013-2014. Always a strong writer, one of his first stories as a cub reporter in 2011--a personality profile--received a first place Region 1 Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Achievements at the Voice: Kevin's primary focus at The VOICE was sports reporting, but he stepped up whenever another topic needed attention, winning a first place award for Investigative Reporting from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association in 2013 for his work on transparency and campus crime reporting. That same year he won a third place award in the same competition for Personality Profile writing. Kevin was among the small group selected to attend the College Media Association conference in New York.
Where are they now? Kevin transferred to Rutgers where he worked for the Rutgers Targum as a sports reporter. He graduated in 2017 with a degree in Journalism. In 2016 he worked as an Editorial Intern at uInterview Inc. and now works as a freelance journalist.

Achievements at the Voice: Jamie worked on numerous aspects of The VOICE, from writing to marketing to photography. After The VOICE was dormant for a year, she came back in 2015, during her final semester at Mercer to help the transition team get it back up and running. Jamie studied Communication as well as Education and worked in Early Childhood care throughout her time at the College. She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. While working on The VOICE, Jamie's efforts made her a stand out and she was selected to attend College Media Association conferences in both Chicago and New York.

Achievements at the Voice: Mariana, an International student from Brazil, was initially hesitant to write for The VOICE, fearing that her English skills wouldn't be good enough. She went on to be awarded for her her Feature Writing by the New Jersey Collegiate Press association in 2013. Mariana moved up the ranks, finally voted to serve as Editor in Chief by her peers, a testament to her work ethic and leadership skills. She took on more stories and more layout and design for The VOICE than any EIC before or since and was selected to attend College Media Association conferences in Chicago and New York.
Where are they now?
Mariana transferred to CUNY Baruch where she earned a Masters degree in Public Relations. She then worked as a PR intern in New York City before returning to Sao Paulo, Brazil where she now works as a Jr. Account Executive at one of the top global PR firms, Weber Shandwick.

James received full scholarship to attend the University of Michigan where he studied Screen Arts and Culture. He is now a cinematographer. He lives and works in New York City.

Kyle transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he wrote for their newspaper and for several local publications and broadcast sports shows. He went on to become the Sports Information Assistant at Ashland University before moving on to Swarthmore College where he became the Athletic Communications Assistant Director. From there he went on to a position as Assistant Sports Information Director at West Chester University. He now works as a content editor at Jomboy media.

He focussed on political topics throughout his years at The VOICE winning a Societ of Professional Journalist's finalist award for his indictment of Congressman Chris Smith's lack of public engagement.

Sean completed a degree in Liberal Arts at William Paterson University at MCCC and went on to serve as a WPU Assistant and Student Ambassador, as well as a Learning Center tutor, on MCCC's West Windsor campus. As part of her internship she focused on immigrant and reproductive rights while working at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health. After graduating from Hampshire she did a post graduate year a Princeton University where she co-authored a paper with Marta Tienda Professor of Demographic Studies and professor of sociology and public affairs. Next she went on to Penn State University where she initiated her graduate studies in the Sociology Department and the Population Research Institute.
