A brush fire on farmland beside Old Trenton Road cast a plume of smoke over 200 feet high that was visible from the MCCC West Windsor Campus parking lot this morning. The blaze started around 11:30 am.

Plainsboro fire trucks got to the scene at 11:44 am.

When asked if anyone knew the cause of the fire, officers on the scene said only that it was a brush fire and that it was “nothing suspicious.”

As firefighters and emergency personnel worked to quell the blaze, traffic was closed on Old Trenton Road and diverted to Cubberly Road and S. Post Road.

It took just over an hour for emergency services to put out the fire. A tractor pulling a large plow came through the field at the treeline at 12:34 pm, pulling up dirt to snuff out any last hot embers, as the fire vehicles departed.

One eyewitness at the scene said, “I talked to the guy who owns [the field]. He was trying to get some poison ivy vines out. Fucking asshole used fire for some reason.”

When asked for comment, one firefighter responded: “Ruh-Roh, this isn’t fucking good.”
